The New Psp-3000 Reviewed – is it Worth Getting?

admin » 28 June 2009 » In PSP » No Comments

At first glance, it would be very difficult to tell apart the PSP- 3000 from the PSP-2000 Slim. But a closer look would reveal some minor changes that Sony has made to the PSP-3000’s exterior. The metal ring that is on the back of the PSP-2000 and the earlier PSP has now been replaced with a smaller chrome ring. Sony has also rearranged the location of both the Playstation logo and the Sony logo. The Playstation logo is now on the home button, while the Sony logo has been moved from the upper left to the upper right of the PSP-3000’s face.

The most noticeable upgrade that has been added to the PSP-3000 is an improved LCD screen. The LCD screen is the same size as that of previous PSP versions (4.3 inch). The screen now has higher contrast and a wider color gamut. It also comes with an anti-reflective coating. The new screen upgrade delivers a better and richer array of color when playing games or viewing different content.

The screen color was compared to that of the PSP-2000, by reviewers at gamespot.com (who were the first to review the PSP-3000). It is quite evident in the review images posted on gamespot.com, that the PSP-3000 screen color was much sharper and brighter than the PSP-2000’s. The new anti-reflective coating makes visibility much better in sun light and other well-lit settings.

A new built-in microphone has also been added to the PSP-3000. This new integrated microphone makes it easier to communicate through Skype and other compatible voice call networks, but will require Wi-Fi connection in order to work. The built-in microphone is also great for using with voice communication games.

Last but not least… Sony has also improved the video-out socket to make the PSP-3000 compatible with non-progressive TVs – which are televisions without HD capability. So if you don’t own an HD-TV set, but want to connect your PSP to your TV… PSP-3000 will make that possible.

As Stated by Sony in their press release: The PSP-3000 will be made available in two new vibrant colors in addition to the traditional “Piano Black”. The first version will be available in “Mystic Silver” when it goes on sale worldwide October 14, while the second new color – “Pearl White” will be available at a later date. The PSP-3000 will be priced at $199 when it goes on sale as reported by Gamespot.com.

With only a few new features added…is it really worthwhile to migrate from your current PSP to PSP-3000? If all you’re looking forward to – is a nicer, more vibrant screen display or the ability to connect your PSP to regular TV without HDTV capability… then you really should go for PSP-3000.

Apart from that, there really isn’t much of a reason switch to the new PSP-3000, especially if you already have a PSP-2000. The PSP-3000 is just a slight upgrade to the PSP-2000 Slim and supports the same games as all previous versions of the PSP.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 vs. The Sony’s Playstation 3

admin » 18 June 2009 » In Xbox » No Comments

Microsoft has tried to catch up with some of the titans of the gaming world, such as Sony with the release of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 offers many new features that players will love:

Free limited subscription to online gaming – This allows players who have not been participating in online gaming a chance to see what is available at no charge. All Xbox 360s come with Live-aware – This means you can get a friend invite or see who is online and what they are playing from your Xbox 360. The button in the middle of the controller makes all this very easy.

It offers great media features including listening to music while you play games, the ability to create custom playlists and your own custom soundtracks, the ability to rip songs from original CDs to your Xbox 360 and stream music from your MP3 player to your Xbox 360. You can also create slideshows of photos to share with friends and family. Xbox 360 has a wireless controller. No more tripping over the wires, although it can support two wired controllers through USB ports in the front. The game console is not only great for gamers, but developers as well. It is a powerful machine with an unprecedented amount of RAM – a feature added on the request of developers.

But, Xbox 360 still has some problems that need to be worked out:

Their Japanese third party support is lacking – While some Japanese developers offer software for the Xbox, it is small in number when compared to what the same developers offer for Playstation. While the controller is wireless, it eats batteries rather quickly. Standard alkaline batteries only last about thirty hours, so if you buy Xbox 360, invest in rechargeable batteries to save yourself some money in the end. When they were set up in WalMart stores before days before the launch, many suffered what is known as the Xbox “360 screen of death,” an error screen. The Xbox 360 had also had some problems with overheating. Some report the Xbox 360 system as being very noisy when playing an Xbox 360 disc.

Many people are eagerly awaiting the release of Playstation 3, which may occur as soon as November of this year. It has been said that the Playstation 3 has an outward feel (which allows it to stand vertically or horizontally on its own), as opposed to the Xbox 360’s inward feel. It is a much larger console than the Playstation 2 and closer to the original size of the Xbox. Game discs slide into the console like CDs slide into a car player.

Here are a few attractive features of the Playstation 3:

It is always on, so you can access your Playstation 3 from anywhere as long as you have an Internet connection. With a Playstation Portable, you can connect to your Playstation 3 and transfer media such as music and movies. The Playstation 3 appears to be much more powerful than that Xbox 360, Ninetindo Revolution, and Playstation 2. Initial reports say it will be twice as fast as the Xbox 360. Developers and publishers of over 230 games have announced titles for Playstation 3 games.

Here are a few reported cons and problems with the Playstation 360:

Comes with only 256 MB, less than the 512 MB the Xbox 360 will come with. Their Playstation Network Platform (the online service) is still in development and may not be ready by the time Playstation 3 is released.

The launch of the Playstation 3 has already been delayed due to disk problems.

Both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are incredible gaming consoles. It seems that although the Xbox 360 came out first, the best bet is still the Playstation 3. The strongest point of the Xbox 360 is its online functionality, but Sony may be working on something similar to Xbox Live right now. However, Microsoft is closing the gap with Xbox 360 and probably will eventually catch up with Sony in gaming consoles. For some users, it may come down to something as simple as which one is more compatible with the games they already own.

The Serious Nintendo DSi for Serious Gamers

admin » 15 June 2009 » In Nintendo » No Comments

The latest handheld game from Nintendo is the Nintendo DSi which launched earlier this month but can it stand up to the Sony PSP another handheld game that received its original beginning in 2004. Sony PSP stands for Sony PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DSi stands for Digital System Individual. In the graphics department, the Sony PSP 3000 amazes the gamer with sharp colors and post-PS1 graphics.

The Nintendo DSi stays true to its Nintendo roots and remains playful and cartoony which is great for Mario but not so good for pushing forward in the new generation of modern gaming. In the controls department the Nintendo DSi is compact with no drastic button changes since the Nintendo DS Lite except for the dual touch-screens for upper limit stylus battles. While the Sony PSP 3000 has a built-in joystick and very useful shoulder buttons, the designer failed to add a second analog stick to the big space on the right side that could unlock and less gaming possibilities.

As far as the screens go, the Sony PSP 3000 as a larger, anti-glare screen which allows the gamer to play in daylight (the previous console kept a lot of people up at night because that was the best time to play) and also produces more colors therefore the image is more detailed and sharper in all types of light. For the Nintendo DSi, the screens are approximately 17% larger with both being touch interactive. The Nintendo DSi owner can also purchase a plug-in light for added visibility.

The Nintendo DSi has a store with thousands of games one can download in addition to purchasing real game cartridges where is the Sony PSP 3000 has several big-name titles to their credit such as Rock Band and Assassins Creed; however the Nintendo DSi Mario, Indiana Jones, the Brain training series and Star Wars game franchises will always be the big winners. In this latest incarnation of the Nintendo DS it has two cameras which is a nice bonus although it falls short with only 0.3 megapixels for the camera facing the gamer and VGA quality.

The Sony PSP 3000 comes with a built-in microphone which you can use on Skype or record your own voice to music or have Internet music playing while you game. With the Sony PSP 3000 one could subscribe to Go!, and view TV and then purchase add-ons such as a Go! Cam camera or a Go! Explore GPS. The Sony PSP is marketed to a more adult group, 20 to 35-year-olds or a more serious gamer or someone who wants a portable game system and to be able to watch television when they’re not gaming.

Whereas the Nintendo DSi might be thought of as more of a kid friendly portable game; nevertheless the Nintendo DSi has reached an older audience through their Brain training series of games for those adults concerned about their brain health. The Hello Kitty collection of accessories does not help the case for adults using the Nintendo DSi.
